Toni Thompson, viola |
A native of Missouri, violist Toni Lorraine Thompson has lived in Teaneck, NJ since joining the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in 1980. Educated at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, while there, she studied with Karel Blaas. During her years in Minneapolis she studied with Clyn Dee Barrus, principal of the Minnesota Orchestra. Prior to her move to NJ she was a freelance performer in Minneapolis where she played frequently with the Minnesota Orchestra and was a member of the orchestras of the Minnesota Opera Co. (St. Paul), and the Bach Society. Toni also maintains an active freelance career in the New York Metropolitan area as well as a busy private teaching schedule. She is currently principal viola of the St. Cecelia (NYC) Orchestra and was principal viola of the Masterwork Orchestra of NYC for many years. Ms. Thompson has also performed with the NY Virtuosi, the Philharmonia Virtuosi, the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, and at the Teton Music Festival in Wyoming. As a chamber musician and soloist she is in demand for performances of sacred music in synagogues and churches throughout the NJ/NY area. Toni founded Classic Touch in 1985.
